One more cruise ferry built for passenger and cargo shipping company AS Tallink Grupp was delivered from STX Europe’s Rauma yard on 16 April 2009. The vessel, Baltic Queen, is the sixth of Tallink’s RoPax series to have been delivered from the yard featuring TTS RoRo equipment.
The 212 metre long, 29 metre wide cruise ferry, which has a capacity of 2,800 passengers and 1,130 lane metres for vehicles, will replace Romantika on the Stockholm–Tallin route. As the sistership to Baltic Princess, delivered last year, Baltic Queen will be one of the largest cruise ferries in the Baltic. In addition to the five cruise ferries, the Tallink RoPax series also includes the fast ferry Star, which entered into service in 2007.
TTS equipment onboard Baltic Queen includes the patented TTS folding frame bow ramp, which separates the collision bulkhead door from the rest of the ramp, ensuring that the ship is watertight even if the bow door and ramp fails, while still being extremely space-efficient and thus maximising cargo capacity.
Also supplied by TTS are two stern ramps, bow doors, a hoistable car deck, car deck ramps and doors for passengers and pilot access. The contract with the shipyard also included installation of all equipment onboard.
