TTS has won two substantial contracts with Vinashin, Vietnam’s state-owned shipbuilding corporation, to deliver cargo access equipment for in total twelve PCTC vessels to be built for Ray Car Carriers and Hoegh Autoliners.
The contracts for the car carriers will include deliveries of design and key components as well as supervision of fabrication and installation. With these contracts TTS will be the first ships equipment provider to install Ro-Ro equipment in Vietnam.
The contract for Ray Car Carriers include deliveries of Ro-Ro equipment for eight 4,900 units PCTC with equipment including quarter ramps and side ramps; two levels of liftable car deck; internal and external doors; and movable flaps, including associated hydraulic and electric systems. The equipment will have a gross weight of approximately 1,125 tonnes per shipset.
The equipment will be delivered from April 2008 and will be completed during March 2011.
The second contract awarded by Vinashin is deliveries to Hoegh Autoliners contract for four 7,000 units PCTC at Vinashin’s Nam Trieu yard. The equipment includes quarter ramps and side ramps; five levels of liftable car decks and internal and external doors, including supporting hydraulic and electric systems. The Ro-Ro equipment will have a total weight of about 2,750 tonnes per shipset and the equipment will be delivered from February 2008 and will be completed during April 2010.
New build car carriers are one of TTS’ main focus areas in Vietnam, but the group is also making progress in service activities such as ship lengthening. Some of the world’s largest car carriers are being ‘supersized’ in Vietnam, and here again TTS’ expertise is playing a role. TTS has supplied cargo access equipment for twelve car carrier elongation projects at the Hyundai-Vinashin Shipyard. One project saw the creation of the world’s largest car carrier, Asian Empire, which now has capacity for almost 8,000 car equivalent units, for shipowner EUKOR. Another similar project, to which TTS is also contributing, is being carried out on behalf of Wallenius Lines.
" Our presence in Vietnam is of strategic importance, particularly with respect to the recognition Vietnamese shipbuilding has gained from well established ship owners." says Stellan Bernsro, head of the Dry Cargo Handling division. He continues, "Having the ability to offer our group's joined services and products, covering- deck machinery, marine cranes and cargo access equipment, while establishing close cooperation with domestic fabricators, enhance our commitment in the Vietnamese expanding market. The future together with Vinashin looks very promising."
Other orders for TTS companies in Vietnam include a contract for TTS Ships Equipment GmbH, based in Bremen, Germany, to supply hatch covers for the first Diamond 34 bulk carriers, which are being built by Vinashin’s Pha Rung yard. The group will also supply cranes and deck machinery to various ships to be built at Vinashin yards.
TTS’s Vietnam office, based in Haiphong and established in 2006, supports the entire range of TTS equipment including hatch covers, RoRo equipment, cranes and deck machinery to the Vietnamese marine industry.
