Stern platform

The stern of a modern mega yacht is invariably under-utilised.
Depending on the yacht’s design, there are usually many ways of realising the potential of the stern area, one of those being the integration of a stern platform.

A foldable stern platform is one of the most efficient ways to increase deck space. It not only augments the possibilities for recreation and leisure but also, by extending the yacht’s infrastructure, functions as an excellent landing area for tender boats, doubling as an appealing entrance to the yacht for arriving guests. When closed, the platform is protected from the weather and is designed to blend successfully with the silhouette of the ship.

Stern platforms can be built in two ways: as a self-sealing unit or combined with a watertight bulkhead door. Self-sealing stern platforms have an integrated TTS single lip seal that isolates the area behind the platform when in its closed position. These designs are usually fairly simple in shape leaving the area covered, when in closed position, roughly rectangular.

Stern platforms are often combined with a watertight bulkhead door if the shape of the area to be covered in closed position is complex. This can be the case if the closed platform is to cover stairways from a higher deck leading down to the platform area. This often necessitates the design of a u-shaped platform that, in turn, requires a complex seal.
While improving the overall deck space of a yacht, stern platforms also sit close to the water giving the passengers a perfect area for water recreation. Optional equipment such as bathing ladders, foldable stairs, and even safety nets to facilitate the care of small children when bathing, are available to enhance the space.

Another advantage of a stern platform is its function as a landing area for tender boats and recreational vehicles. Also, with the addition of railings, the deck space can be used to add interest to the guest reception area.

The TTS stern platform can be folded into its stowed position when not in use, thus adding to the yacht’s security.
